Bodies in the barrels trial opens

16/05/2008 9:44:00 AM
A JURY of 10 men and two women were empanelled yesterday for the opening of the double murder trial over the deaths of a Nowra couple whose bodies were stuffed into barrels and set alight.

The smouldering remains of Gregory Hosa, 56, and his wife Kathryn McKay, 44, were found near the Tomerong State Forest on January 28, 2006.

The couple had run a stud farm and agistment business at Nowra Hill.

Kim Leanne Snibson and Andrew Wayne Flentjar faced the NSW Supreme Court in Wollongong yesterday after pleading not guilty to charges of murder and detaining the couple without their consent to gain advantage, causing actual bodily harm.

Justice Terence Buddin told the jury Flentjar and Snibson were being tried together for convenience however they should consider it as two separate trials running simultaneously.

The trial was expected to run for up to five weeks and next week the jury was expected to go to site of the alleged murders.

The trial will continue with opening submissions on Monday.
