JULY is Purple Ribbon Month, an event aimed at raising awareness of child abuse, and last week South East Sydney Illawarra Area Health presented funds to assist local support groups.

The recipients have purple ribbon events planned for the month and include Mission Australia, Bay and Basin Community Resources Inc, Anglicare Volunteer Home Visiting Service, Links House Sexual Assault Service and Nowra Family Support Services.

Bay and Basin Community Resources Inc will host an awareness morning tea called Purple Power at Laura’s Garden Café, Sanctuary Point on Thursday from 10am.

Mission Australia will run a series of art therapy/healing workshops for adult survivors of child abuse called an Act of Heart on July 26 and August 2. For details phone 4422 0455.

Anglicare’s Volunteer Home Visiting Service will hold a luncheon on Monday July 28 at noon at the Church of Christ, North Nowra. For details phone Christine on 4423 1018.

Links House will use its donation to purchase therapeutic material, such as DVDs to help children develop protective behaviours.

Nowra Family Support Services will take 20 disadvantaged children from the northern Shoalhaven to the Fitzroy Falls Summer Children’s Camp in January 2009.

The camp provides children at risk with a safe and informative holiday. For information phone 4421 5499.
