ECSTASY and ice were allegedly found in a man’s possession following a short police chase through East Nowra’s streets early yesterday morning.
The chase began about 1.40am when police saw a green Holden Commodore with no numberplates being driven along Torridon Street.
When police tried to stop the vehicle the driver allegedly sped away, at one stage travelling across a footpath and through a vacant block at high speed.
Police again saw the vehicle in McKay Street and resumed chasing the car, with the pursuit ending near Barcoo Way after smoke started pouring out from under the bonnet.
At the scene police arrested Gavin Douglas Waite, 36, of Journal Street, Nowra.
A search of Waite allegedly uncovered 15.9 grams of ecstasy tablets, a plastic bag containing 2.4 grams of methamphet-amine, known as ice, cash that was allegedly the proceeds of drug sales, and a large number of keys.
He was charged with two counts of possessing a prohibited drug, supplying a prohibited drug, possessing implements for stealing cars, dangerous driving, driving an unregistered and uninsured car, and dealing in the proceeds of crime.
He was refused bail at a bail court hearing on Thursday, and will face Nowra Local Court on Monday.
