Mayoral minute fails to impress

16/05/2008 9:40:00 AM
SHOALHAVEN City Mayor Greg Watson’s mayoral minute did not deter Greens MLC Lee Rhiannon from continuing her probing questions into development decisions relating to donors to his various political campaigns.

He tabled the minute, which defended the rezoning of land then owned by Michael Corban, at the general meeting of council on Tuesday.

In it, he set out a timeline detailing how the rezoning took place.

One date in particular stood out: January 29, 2003. Against it Mayor Watson wrote: “Discussions with Mark Jones and Ernie Royston regarding the progress of the rezoning.”

Coincidentally, Michael Corban’s company Triple One Holdings Pty Ltd, is shown on an Electoral Commission schedule of political donations to have donated $5000 to Mayor Watson’s state election campaign on the very same day.

Yesterday, Mayor Watson said he was not present during the discussion. Mark Jones, the architect hired by Mr Corban’s company WD Pty Ltd, also said the mayor was not present.
