Police chase ends in watery arrest at Greenwell Point

24/07/2008 8:32:00 PM
AN ATTEMPT to execute a warrant for arrest led to a police chase from Shoalhaven Heads to Greenwell Point yesterday afternoon.

Shoalhaven police located a man in Shoalhaven Heads and attempted to arrest him on a warrant.

However the man fled in a vehicle and police gave chase.

Road spikes were deployed at two locations but failed to stop the man who rammed a police car in his efforts to escape.

Police followed the man to Greenwell Point, his car reaching speeds of up to 120km/h.

When he arrived at Greenwell Point the man decamped from the car and jumped into the water, swimming towards Comerong Island.

A detective sergeant followed him into the water and he was arrested when two new police boats cornered him off the coast.
