THE concept of sensible leadership is being promoted by Andrew Guile, who has announced his candidacy for ward one at the coming Shoalhaven City Council election.
“Our community needs sensible leadership to make the most of every opportunity for the Shoalhaven,” said the former policy adviser to Federal Member for Gilmore, Joanna Gash.
“This election is an opportunity for change. We cannot take the future leadership of council for granted – there is much that needs to be done to restore the standing of council in the Shoalhaven.
“Our council needs to have the confidence of each member of our community, even if we do not always all agree with some decisions.
“Processes must be transparent and members must be responsible,” Mr Guile said.
“Standing with like minded independent candidates from diverse backgrounds, our campaign is about putting sensible leadership into Shoalhaven Council.
“Much has been achieved of which we can be proud including the delivery of the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre and the REMS scheme for using wastewater in agriculture.
“However, many of us are not convinced that council is always acting in our best interests.
“Having just returned from a trip to Cambodia where we built 22 houses for poor rural villagers, I was constantly reminded how fortunate we are to live in the Shoalhaven.
“We have the most amazing resources at hand – particularly our spectacular coastal and country environment and certainly our people.”
Mr Guile has been Nowra Anglican College’s business manager for eight years, which included a year working for Mrs Gash.
He counted securing the medical school for Wollongong University’s Shoalhaven campus and gaining extra funding for the Princes Highway as among his most significant achievements.
