SHOALHAVEN Mariners’ baseballer Eryn Shipp began her American baseball odyssey a little over two months ago and since then her career has exploded.
The 21-year-old’s international success kicked off with her drafting into the Boston Outlaws in the North American Women’s Baseball League.
In early June she met up with her Aussie team-mates to compete at the Can-Am Tournament, in which they lost just one game and took the gold medal.
The Aussies finished the tournament as equal minor premiers with the Americans.
In the gold medal match the Australians outran the host nation 7-5 to claim the championship.
After excelling on the international stage and proving herself with the Outlaws, Shipp received a ‘surprising’ phone call.
“To her surprise and ours, she received a call informing her she had been selected into the Women’s American All Star team to play at World Series Park,” her father Brett explained.
“That is quite an honour for an Aussie and I am a very proud father.”
Shipp has developed a great reputation among the baseball community in the Illawarra.
She is highly committed to the development of the game; its juniors and females in the sport.
Despite her soaring success, Shipp continues to maintain those values and is juggling a coaching position with her demanding lifestyle.
At the request of her league Shipp has been asked to coach an under 12s rep side and prepare them for a tournament in Cooperstown.
The Illawarra product who has been part of the Australian Invitational Touring side for the past four years, took out the 2008 Australian Women’s National Championships with NSW Country and played for the Aussie Hearts at the Phoenix International Women’s Baseball Tournament.
