Wade retains title

JAMES WADE won the William Cross Pro-Am Mens Singles for a second successive year with a 7-4 win over Ronnie Baxter at the Heads Sports and Social Club.

The world number three was a 7-4 winner over Baxter in the final, having defeated America’s Scott Kirchner 6-3 in the semis.

Wade also defeated Russell Stewart, Denis Ovens, Shane Tichowitsch and Gordon Smith during the event.

Baxter hit a nine-darter in his win over Robert Thornton, the second time inside six weeks that he has achieved a perfect leg in competition, following his achievement in the Las Vegas Desert Classic Qualifiers.

Mitchell Clegg, the 2006 Oceanic Masters winner, won the Junior Boys event, while Corrinne Hammond took victory in the Women’s Singles and Melissa Sinnott won the Junior Girls’ knockout.

The weeklong tournament, which carried $110,000 in cash and prized wrapped up with the staging of the Australian open.

It was a win for Robert Thornton from Scotland, who defeated Australian Paul Nicholson in the final.
