AMATEUR boxer Nathan Wright is off to Canada to fight in an international boxing tournament
Wright, who grew up in Bomaderry but now lives in Wollongong, has been boxing for four years and has contested more than 40 fights.
That includes a number of international bouts against fighters from Ireland, Samoa and Ukraine over the past two years.
Wright will compete against other boxers from Australia and Canada as well as USA, Ireland, Scotland and England in the Canadian International Tournament.
“I have improved a lot since my last international fight so I’m looking forward to it,” the 25-year-old said.
Wright is guaranteed two fights before the elimination round, but he won’t know his opposition until he is given the draw upon arriving in Canada.
“The Americans and English are quite strong,” the lightweight boxer said.
“I’ll just have to wait and see what happens with the draw.
“But I’m hoping to win it.”
The tournament will help Wright prepare for the national titles in November and the Australian selection championships in May next year.
It has cost him more than $3000 to compete at the world-class tournament and he is seeking assistance from anyone willing to support his endeavours.
