LOCAL businesses are being invited to rub shoulders with serious dragon boat paddlers during the first major dragon boat regatta on the Shoalhaven River.
The Nowra Water-dragons Dragon Boat Club, is gearing up to stage the first South Coast Regional Dragon Boat Regatta in September, and at the same time is offering local corporations a unique team building opportunity.
While the big attraction will be the best dragon boat crews from throughout the region racing, part of the regatta will feature corporate teams plying the waters of the Shoalhaven River.
Regatta organisers are hoping to put together 16 corporate teams for the day, which will use dragon boats from the State association.
Sweeps and drummers will also be provided to each team, so all local businesses need to do is come up with 16 to 20 people ready and willing to paddle on the day, Sunday September 21.
Companies able to find 10 potential paddlers will be matched with another company in a similar situation to help make up a complete team.
Training will be provided to paddlers in the week before the event, in readiness for racing 250 metres from the Nowra Golf Club to Grey’s Beach.
Heats will be held throughout the day, before a final offering trophies made by the Nowra Men’s Shed for the first three teams.
What is shaping up as a great fun day and a tremendous chance to build camaraderie among colleagues will also focus on sport paddling, with 10 of the best dragon boat crews from the South Coast coming together for the serious side of racing on the day.
