HUSKISSON lawn bowling sensation Sarah Boddington has continued her outstanding career taking out the 2008 NSW under 18 girls pairs title last week.
In fact along with partner West Dubbo’s Allison Jeffrey they are the inaugural winners of the title.
They defeated Kenita Monks (Park Beach) and Suzana Stojcevska (Warilla) in the final at Windang Bowling Club.
Monks and Stojcevska took the early advantage in the final, leading until the second last end of the 13-end match, when Jeffery and Boddington scored a two to move to a 9-8 lead, before locking up the match with one shot on the final end.
Monks and Stojcevska reached the final after upsetting the highly favoured pair of Australian under 18 representative Natahsa Van Eldik and reigning Australian junior girls singles champion, Louren Katague (Merrylands).
Jeffrey and Boddington accounted for NSW under 18 representatives Sarah Hillyer (Birrong) and Naomi Elliott (Cabramatta).
Boddington, who will turn 16 this week, was delighted with the win.
“It’s a pretty good birthday present,” she said.
“We thought we were a chance of winning, we are a good combination, but didn’t think it would actually happen.
“It feels fantastic to be a State champion, especially in the first ever year of competition.
“It’s something special.”
She said the win rates highly in her career, but her biggest performance was making the final eight of the Australian indoor singles against some of the best ladies in the country.
It was a full week of action for Boddington, who also played singles. And she had a successful time winning her section, including a win over Louren Katague, the reigning Australian junior girls’ singles champion.
She eventually went down in the quarter-finals to her pairs partner Allison Jeffrey.
Megan Walsh claimed the honour of being the first winner of the NSW under 18 girls’ singles title.
Sarah had little time to savour her win for she was back on the green, taking part in the fours with Dylan Skinner (St Georges Basin), Tom Shapcott (Husk-isson) and Christopher Rae (Bomaderry).
After a bye in the first round, the locals were beaten by 10 shots in their second and third rounds to be eliminated from the competition.
It has certainly been a big year for the young bowler, which has seen her a regular member of the State junior squad, playing in various tournaments around the country, winning numerous medals.
