Fishing News with Scott Sharpe

THE weekend came and went as it usually does, with really only one day for the guys and girls getting out among it.

With flat seas and virtualy no wind the race to the shelf was on, with the weather not allowing people out for quite some time.

There wasn’t a lot to report, but I guess why would there be with 15.2 degree water?

There was however a large number of sharks around including some nice makos, with one nudging the 200kg mark.

There were also a couple of yellowfin caught and a lonely bluefin that the guys on Benchmark were lucky enough to land that went 40kg.

So all in all it’s only a matter of time before it fires up - fingers crossed.

The bay, well salmon was the word of the weekend, with massive schools moving around early in the morning.

Not too many snapper, but outside of the bay was another story with some nice reds along the 30 metre mark landed along with some nice mowong.

The snapper turned on further north as far as Gerroa with some nice reds like the ones the Pakes boys got around the 3.5kg mark and a few other local snapper guys did really well.

The flathead are starting to come back with Kinghorn fishing well on Saturday.

The leatheries have been around, but are much bigger.

I guess so would you, if you ate every bit of lead you could get your mouth around.

Speaking of getting your mouth around things - a lucky seal would be sitting down of Steamers somewhere this week telling his mates how lucky he was on the weekend , pulling every second snapper off a mate who was fishing down that way.

On about the third try all hell broke loose at the back of the boat as a great white decide to play catch and kiss with the seal.

The seal won, but by the sounds of things it was only because he could get out of the water otherwise his life span would have been very short lived.

The great white came from underneath the boat so maybe next time you out check your sounder if something big is sitting underneath, get your mate to clean the burley pot out.

The river has been quiet, I only heard of a few bream around the showground along with some bass further up.

That about wraps it up for this week for any further info give us a call at the shop on 44472087 or email culburrabait@people.net.au and I’ll see you on water.

Cheers Scotty
