Illaroo wins the treble
ILLAROO completed a clean sweep of the Shoalhaven Senior Football first grade competition with a 2-nil win over Shoalhaven Heads Berry in the grand final yesterday.
The matches were postponed a day due to the inclement weather on Saturday with all the senior deciders moved to Shoalhaven Heads.
It was the Roos who again rose to the occasion in a tough and at times physical clash to come out on top 2-nil and claim their third title for 2008.
The club has already taken out the FA Cup and the Competition Championship, the premiership adding to what has been a stellar season for coach Scott Goodger and his side.
The Roos led 1-nil at the break after Nick Gallagher scored a great goal in the 30th minute. Daniel Frew completed the scoring when he was on the end of a Chris Stanley corner to put the second goal away in the 56th minute.
There was excitement in the lower grades where a Chris Button goal with 20 seconds of the second period of extra time remaining gave the Shoalhaven United Bears the second grade title 2-1 over Illaroo.
A two-goal effort from Brad Barnes secured the third grade title for Bomaderry 3-nil over Shoalhaven Heads Berry, while Illaroo claimed fourth grade with a 2-1 win over Wreck Bay.
Earlier in the week Shoalhaven United also won the Over 35s title downing Gerringong Red 2-1.
