Chance missed for private jail

22/08/2008 12:36:00 PM
A GOLDEN opportunity has been missed by the State Government in not fully privatising Nowra’s impending new jail.

Justice Minister John Hatzistergos is quoted as saying it will be run as a ‘way-forward’ jail.

Well, Mr Hatzistergos, the way-forward concept commenced in 2002 as a new management concept and all that has happened is that overtime is further out of control ($43 million) – empty words from government, a lot of wasted taxpayers’ money and a complete lack of leadership.

These traits can be seen in nearly all government departments. The direct failure by CEOs to take on the unions and stop the rorting of the system by union members.

The current State Government and its ministers is being compared to the great BBC series Fawlty Towers but sadly that is entertainment and the State Government is reality.

B. Cumberland,

North Nowra.
