Let’s not become a laughing stock

Let’s not become a laughing stock

PERHAPS the people of the Shoalhaven should consider a lot of changes on Shoalhaven Council.

The current Mayor does not ask some councillors to pre-council meeting briefings. “They don’t come so I have stopped asking them,” he said. We stop asking neighbours for dinner if they won’t come but this is local government and all councillors should be invited to any pre-council meeting briefing.

The Deputy Mayor and candidate for Mayor does not want any Muslims in the Shoalhaven. In fact he is on record as not wanting any Muslim people in Australia.

The current Mayor has angered many people of the Jewish faith with poorly chosen public remarks.

When parts of council meetings are replayed on 2ST and the ABC we hear Councillors McCrudden, Willmott and others swearing and using language we would not use in front of our mothers and grandmothers. Councillors seem to enjoy using sarcastic remarks about each other, rather than address the problems faced by residents.

The current Mayor’s team of Shoalhaven Independents would have us believe “they never know who is giving them donations”. In 2004 lists of developers who donated were published in the South Coast Register and discussed on ABC Radio. The Shoalhaven Independents Group has spoken passionately about supporting many of these developers’ projects in recent years.

Councillor Finkernagel has had his hearing before the Local Government Pecuniary Interest and Disciplinary Tribunal deferred because a witness could not attend. This hearing will now be held after the council elections.

The Shoalhaven area will become a laughing stock if we re-elect these people.

C. Handel,

Sussex Inlet.
