WE write as members of the Greg Watson Support Crew, local hard working unknowns sitting in our low-cost houses and trying to make a go of it in the Shoalhaven.
We read in this paper the events and comments leading up to the election and always come up with the same question. Why would anyone vote for members of the Shoalhaven Action Campaign? They seem to have made their political entrance by degrading and abusing others. Not very nice, nor very democratic.
So, where are their policies? What are they going to do for us younger families and battlers in the Shoalhaven to ensure it has a successful economic future? They openly degrade and put down developers or companies with the funds to build buildings and create jobs for our future families. All we hear is a party who are going to fund two very large colourful signs, one for each end of the entrance to the Shoalhaven Shire. You may well ask, what will be on the sign? At a glance we would say “closed for business”.
In our view the people who would be most affected by this party and their supporters are our families, our present and future children. The Shoalhaven region has one of the highest unemployment in NSW. How would you feel if your children and grandchildren, at birth, were given a time card that read, “Once you get to employment age you will need to leave your mum and dad, family and friends and move to the city to work – when you are there ensure you don’t get your drink spiked with drugs, raped in a dark alley or ripped off by a landlord”?
Will Shoalhaven Action Campaign, led by John Fergusson or Dennis Argall, change that and create jobs? We don’t think so. They have no previous council experience, they would not have the contacts in State and Federal government, and they have successfully to date lobbied to stop growth and development in the region.
