 The councillors’ responsibilities

The councillors’ responsibilities

8/09/2008 10:54:00 AM
ALL residents of the Shoalhaven need to be reminded of the role and responsibilities that come with being an elected councillor.

The Local Government Act states that the role an elected councillor is to represent the interests of residents and ratepayers; provide leadership and guidance to the community; and facilitate communication between the community and the council.

The majority of current councillors have failed to fulfil their roles as elected representatives; this has been demonstrated in past and recent poor decisions made by these councillors which have affected communities across the Shoalhaven area.

We urge you not to vote for councillors who represent developers’ interests ahead of the community’s interest. Vote for a councillor who will consult and communicate effectively the views and expectations of the local residents and who shares the concerns for the long-term future of the Shoalhaven and sees this as the number-one priority for a sustained and balanced future for the area.

M. Sharrock and N. Lim,

Manyana.
